AUSTIN, Texas — The loop around Zilker Park – and all of its parking – will remain closed for a few more days.

The City of Austin said Lou Neff Road and all associated parking along the loop around the Zilker Park Great Lawn will remain closed through Saturday, Aug. 7, and reopen on Sunday, Aug. 8. Crews are working to realign the road, accommodate ADA improvements, perform asphalt maintenance and make electrical service modifications.

The work was scheduled to be finished by Friday, July 30, but the asphalt work was delayed to minimize the impact on park programming, according to the City.

During the road closure, Zilker Park visitors are asked to take alternate forms of transportation, including bicycles and the bus. As parking will be limited during this time, the City is highly encouraging people to use Capital Metro services. The CapMetro 30 Local route goes to Zilker Park via Barton Springs Road.

To incentivize the use of public transportation, those who ride the bus to the park during the road closure can share their physical or app ride receipt at the Barton Springs Pool check-in desk to receive complimentary entry to the pool on behalf of the Austin Parks Foundation.

The work that is causing the closure is all part of the City's efforts to open the new Zilker Eagle mini train. The City said this month will see improvements to the train tunnel, railbed and the depot.

The train, which will replace the Zilker Zephyr, is set to open this fall. For more information on the Zilker Eagle, including construction updates and a timeline, visit the train's website.
