ANOTHER HOMICIDE EARLY MONDAY MORNING ONE NEIGHBOR NOW HAS A MESSAGE FOR THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE PUT THE GUNS DOWN. PLSEEA THAT’S WTHA I CAN ONLY SAY AND PRAY FOR EVERY DAY. THE NEIGHBOR WAS TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS. ON PILE AVENUE FOR NEARLY A DEDECA AND HAS NEVER HAD PROBLEMS. HE RECOUNTS THE MOMENT. HE HEARD THE GUNOTSH AT A NEARBY HOUSE FOR SOME REASON. I GOT UP TO SIT AT MY KITCHEN TABLE IN A I HEARD ONE GUNSHOT. AND TTHA WOULDN’T IF NOTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT IT BECAUSE WEEA HR THE GUNSHOTS ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT, BUT THIS TIME IT WAS JUST ITAS W SOMEBODY GETTING KILLED. IT WASN’T NO JOKE. IT WAS FOR REAL. POCELI SAY THEY GOT THE CALL AROUND 12:15 AM WHERE A 29 YEAR OLD MAN HAD BEEN SHOT ONCE HE DIED AT THE SCENE. WITH THE OPTIC OF HOMICIDES THIS YEAR ALONE. THE NEIGHBOR HOPES WE CAN COME TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY AND STOP THE VIOLENCE. JACKSON NEEDS TO REALLY COME TOGETHER. AND DO SOMETHING BECAUSE CRIME IS REALLY IS OUTRAGEOUS HERE. I’M 52 YEARS OLD AND I HAVEN’T SEEN JACKSON LIKE THIS IN A LONG LONG TIME. AND REALLY IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE.

A suspect in a fatal shooting has surrendered to police. Officers were called about 12:15 a.m. Monday to the 4300 block of Pyle Avenue, where Julious Smith, 24, had been shot once. He died at the scene, police said.Kevez Ellis, 32, turned himself in to investigators and is charged with murder in connection with Smith's death, Jackson police officials said.Neighbors told investigators they heard a gunshot around midnight, police said.A man who lives on Pyle Avenue said in the nearly 10 years he's lived there, he's never had any problems. The man, who wants to remain anonymous, said he heard the gunshot."For some reason, I got up to sit at my kitchen table and I heard one gunshot. And nothing unusual about it because we hear gunshots all through the night. But this time, somebody was getting killed, it wasn’t no joke, it was for real," the man said. "Jackson needs to really come together and do something, because crime is really outrageous. I'm 52 years old and I haven't seen Jackson like this in a long, long time. And really, it's time for a change."
