Our nation’s and Nevada’s leaders are binary: They are either ditherers or whistlers in the dark.
They know we are still in danger of a double-dip recession, but they seem to be flummoxed on the solution. They seem to think that if they wait long enough, the unvaccinated will realize that it is time to get vaccinated because the equation reads: unvaccinated = death.
The solution is staring President Joe Biden and Gov. Steve Sisolak in the face, but they are too timid. The unvaccinated must be kept away from decent society — that is the solution. They must be banned from airplanes, buses, theaters, jobs — yes, jobs — because they can infect people, especially if they are asymptomatic. And they can infect each other and drive up the cost of health care and the cost of corpse disposal.
Getting the COVID-19 situation under control is imperative, especially in Nevada, where the bread and butter comes from tourism, hospitality and entertainment. Are we willing to see another lockdown? Or absent one, states warning their citizens against a trip to Las Vegas?
Our nation’s and Nevada’s public officials must act fast. Make vaccination a precondition for a normal social and economic life in Nevada. It’s the only way.
