REDONDO BEACH (CNS) - A 34-year-old Lawndale man was arrested today after allegedly stabbing and seriously wounding another man in Redondo Beach.

The stabbing in the 1600 block of Kingsdale Avenue was reported around 1:30 p.m., Redondo Beach police Lt. Corey King said. The victim told police he was walking down the street when he was approached by a man who pulled out a knife and stabbed him, King said.

He was treated at the scene and transported by paramedics to a hospital, and listed in stable condition, the lieutenant said.

The suspect, later identified as Matthew Robert Ihrig, allegedly ran from the scene across the Galleria Mall's parking lot, he said. Officers began a search for the suspect, and about an hour later, a police sergeant spotted Ihrig in the 4000 block of 175th Street, he said. Officers placed him under arrest.

Ihrig was booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon and being held on $37,000 bail, according to jail records. No court information was immediately available.

A motive for the attack was not disclosed by police.
