SHELTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ A Bald Eagle that was rescued in Shelton on Saturday has died.

Concerned boaters and citizens reported a Bald Eagle was in distress Saturday in the Housatonic River. The Shelton Fire Department reports it was in the area of Wooster Island.

Once rescued and brought to shore, CT DEEP officials transported the Eagle to a specialist for treatment at Christine's Critters.

Over the course of 12 hours, Christine's Critters noticed a decline and was prepared to put the Eagle to sleep when she closed her eyes and passed away.

A necropsy has been ordered to determine a cause of death.
