The aftermath of the fire shows where the fire retardant was dropped and when driving through the burn scars, scorched ground and white ash can be seen.
Park visitors say it’s like you’re driving through another world.
“It’s a little shocking, I never seen that before,” said hiker Aaron Gnirk.
Park Ranger, Chris Symons, who reported the fire says it could’ve been a lot worse.
“Certainly a nasty surprise. Given Pinnacles has a dead-end road from both entrances,” said Symons.
Symons adds that their biggest challenge was making sure they got all visitors out quickly, “you got some visitors on trail you got some visitors in their cars.”
He also said that this fire stresses the importance of people being prepared. Especially when visiting mother nature in California.
“It’s important to have a bag packed, especially when you and be outdoors. You gotta be prepared for that as well. Whether that's heat, fire, anything like that,” said Symons.
