BAKERSFIELD, Calif., (KBAK/KBFX) — A man died on Sunday while attempting to save his kids in the Kern River.
Kern County sheriff's deputies said around 11 a.m. the kids were in the river and were in distress. The man jumped into the river to save them and became trapped in the current.
Deputies found the man's body around 1:45 p.m. a little further down the river.
This is the first death in the Kern River this year.
Search and rescue crews advise for people to stay out of the river if possible and if you do decide to go in, make sure you wear the proper safety gear.
