PROVIDENCE — A motorist found a man lying on the Route 6 pavement with a stab wound to the neck early Sunday morning and drove him to the hospital, according to police.

It was one of three stabbings reported in Providence over the weekend.

The 34-year-old victim found on Route 6, who has not been identified, was in critical condition, Providence Police Commander Thomas Verdi said.

The man is believed to have been stabbed after being involved in a car crash at the intersection of Union Avenue and Pocasset Avenue in the Silver Lake neighborhood around 12:45 a.m.

Whoever attacked him left the scene of the crash and no arrests have been made, Verdi said.

The victim drove to Route 6, apparently on the way to the hospital, but stopped in the travel lane of Route 6 east near the Dean Street ramp.

A passing motorist who saw the man lying on the roadway in a pool of blood stopped and put him in the flatbed of his pickup truck before driving to Rhode Island Hospital.

The stabbing in Silver Lake was one of two in the early morning hours Sunday that left someone hospitalized.

At 1:45 a.m., a 35-year-old man was walking with his girlfriend at the intersection of Broad Street and Fricker Street when someone stabbed him in the chest, Verdi said.

The man was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was in critical condition, Verdi said.

And on Saturday, a 28-year-old man was reported in critical condition after an early-morning stabbing on Federal Hill, according to the police.

The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. outside Opa restaurant at 230 Atwells Ave., the police said in a statement posted to social media. Detectives are investigating the stabbing. The man was being treated for his injuries at Rhode Island Hospital.

No arrests had been made Sunday in any of the stabbings.
