The 58th annual International Surf Festival returned to the sand this weekend and, for a few days, it was nothing but sun, fun, run, surf, paddle and row.
Crowds of people, from ages 8 to 80, participated in the festival’s myriad events spread out across all four South Bay beach cities. This year’s host city was Torrance.
Highlights of the weekend included a surfing competition on Saturday morning, followed by a two-mile beach run. Sunday morning started with the Velzy-Stevens paddleboard race. Then came one of the festival’s signature events: The Dwight Crum Pier-to Pier Swim. Hundreds of swimmers motored from the Hermosa Beach Pier, followed the shore two miles north and finished after a lap around the Manhattan Beach Pier.
There was also the Charlie Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament, where team spirit was plentiful — as were the matching costumes.
