Dallas (1080 KRLD) - More than 4500 runners turned out for the fifth Run for the Blue 5K and 1 Mile run/walk. The event took place on Saturday at Dallas City Hall and was in aid of supporting friends or family members who had been wounded or killed in the line of duty.

Dallas Police say the event was founded five years ago; "in response to July 7, 2016, when five police officers were killed and eight police officers were injured in an ambush on the Dallas Police Department, Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police, and El Centro College Police."

Runners from across the country, even as far as the NYPD turned out in the Dallas heat to enjoy the largest run of its kind in the nation with proceeds benefitting the Blue Guardian Foundation, a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
