HOLLADAY — A 25-year-old man died Sunday after being hit by a car on the Van Winkle Expressway.

The man was identified by Unified police as Shane Halloran of Murray, Monday afternoon.

The crash took place about 3:45 a.m. near 1192 E. Van Winkle. Police initially said the incident occurred at 1992 E. Van Winkle, but later clarified that the address was 1192 E. Van Winkle.

Halloran was walking in the road in a very dark area. A Nissan SUV was southbound in the area and hit Halloran, who died at the scene, said Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler.

Police aren't sure why he was walking in the road. Halloran lives about a mile away from the area, so it's possible he had been walking home, Cutler said.

The Nissan driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative with police but was very shook up, Cutler said.

Police are still investigating the incident to determine what led up to it, Cutler said.

Police initially said the man's name was spelled as Holloran, but later clarified that the correct spelling is Halloran.
