SAN ANTONIO - A person is dead after fire destroyed a restaurant near downtown.

It happened around 3:36 a.m. early Sunday morning at Sergio's Molino on the 640 block of Ruiz just Northwest of downtown.

Firefighters say the restaurant has multiple additions with several roof systems which may have contributed to the heavy fire in the attic spaces.

The battalion chief at the scene said they quickly made entry arriving to attack the fire after hearing reports that someone was trapped inside but were forced out by the heat within five minutes.

As soon as the fire was out, they were able to reenter and find the person, pull them out of the building and begin CPR.

Unfortunately, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

No word on the amount of damages caused by the fire or what may have caused it to start.

This is an ongoing investigation.
