Cowley County Health Officer Thomas Langer on Friday released a report that stated July has seen a five-fold increase in newly identified cases. He said that COVID-19 activity in July is the highest in terms of new cases since February.

Langer said that the Delta strain of the coronavirus is having the highest impact on the population and is spreading. The new strain creates a much higher viral load in people, which makes it easier to spread to others. As of Friday, 51 cases were still active and six people were being treated for the virus in local hospitals, he said.
