Then & Now: Do you know where this is?

Then & Now

Much has changed since this photo was taken nearly seven decades ago.

For starters, the street was given a new name. And by the time the street signs were tweaked, many of the buildings seen in our Then photo were long gone, razed to make way for parking. Of course.

Billings Auto Supply, founded at the close of World War II, was a longtime Central Mass. parts supplier. Brothers Sam and Peter Abdelmaseh built an innovative business, initially in a storefront.

Later, they moved the growing business to the building at the right of our Then photo. In 1954, when this photo was taken, the owners of Billings Auto were readying to have the brick building next door taken down. Parking.

The company is no longer in business.

Not all of the structures in the photo are gone, however. The lone remaining one is in the back.

It underwent an extensive renovation about 1990. The building dates to 1900.

The exterior bricks were restored and new windows were installed, giving the building the look of a modern structure.

Do you know where this is?
