Free backpacks, school supplies and educational materials for parents and students will be distributed at five locations throughout New Mexico by the LIBRE Institute, a nonprofit organization based in Arlington, Virginia. LIBRE provides support to Hispanic communities throughout the country on issues related to literacy, education and economic prosperity. It is currently focused on helping families re-acclimate back into school after being on pandemic hiatus.

According to the LIBRE Institute, the average American family will spend more than $600 per child on back-to-school supplies and other items related to preparing a child for the new school year. The distribution schedule is as follows: ♦ Española: July 31, 10 a.m., El Buen Pastor parking lot, 609 Calle Rivera. ♦ Albuquerque: Aug. 1, noon to 4 p.m., in partnership with Casa Del Rey, West Bluff Park, 2408 Alamogordo NW. ♦ Las Cruces: Aug. 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., New Seasons Community Church, 2215 S. Main Street. ♦ Roswell: Date and time to be announced. In partnership with the Waymaker Church. Distribution at Roswell Independent School District elementary schools. ♦ Farmington: Aug. 7, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Desert Heights Church, 1835 E. Main Street. In partnership with One Church Farmington.
