A Duluth resident invites the public to donate supplies for the homeless, and take supplies if needed, during a barbecue Saturday at Central Hillside Park.

The event begins at 4 p.m. at the park, located at Lake Avenue and East Fourth Street, next to One Roof Community Housing, organizer Airlea DeFoe said Friday. Ribs, burgers, hot dogs, wild rice brats and other food will be served during the free barbecue. There will also be raffles for gift cards, a slow cooker, Nike Jordan backpack and other prizes.

“I am trying to be an active member of the Indigenous community,” said DeFoe, who is studying sociology in college.

She said residents have been contributing supplies, but donations will also be accepted at the barbecue. Requested items include socks and underwear; cases of water; trail mix; protein bars and shakes; noodle cups; hygiene products of all kinds; bug spray; and sleeping bags, tents and backpacks.

Any donations left over after the event will be distributed to homeless encampments, DeFoe said. Updates about the event can be found on Facebook at fb.me/e/s9I6WrBJ9 .
