BUFFALO, N.Y. — A settlement has been reached six years after a 3-year-old boy died following a crash in Delaware Park.

Maksym Sugorovskiy died back in 2015 after being hit by a vehicle that veered off the 198 Expressway and crashed onto the Ring Road walking path.

At the time, there were no guardrails or any protective measures in place.

The family sued the state, the City of Buffalo, the Olmstead Parks Conservancy and the vehicle’s driver.

While the city will contribute $2.25 million, attorneys say other financial aspects of the settlement will remain confidential.

Instead, the family says it is committed to honoring Maksym's memory and continuing to heal together from the loss.

Since the accident, guardrails have been put in place and the speed limit on the expressway has been reduced to 30 miles per hour.
