OAKLAND — The names of the city’s two most recent homicide victims, men who were fatally shot within a half-mile area in East Oakland, were released by police Monday.

Travis Ward, 48, of Oakland, was identified as the man shot to death Saturday morning in the 1600 block of 23rd Avenue just north of Foothill Boulevard.  He was found in the street about 9:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Ward lived in the area.  A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and no arrests have been made.

A man who died July 22 from wounds suffered in a shooting July 18, was identified as Bert Brigham Jr., 24, who had residences in both Oakland and Antioch, authorities said.

Brigham was shot about 10:04 p.m. July 18 in the 1900 block of Foothill Boulevard while he was hanging out with a group of people. He died the morning of July 22.

No one else in the group was wounded, but a 28-year-old man who lives in the area was hit by a stray bullet and suffered a minor wound.

A motive for the killing has not been determined yet and no arrests have been made.

Investigators so far have not found any evidence to link the killings.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money in the Foothill Boulevard shooting and up to $10,000 in the Saturday killing for information leading to the arrests of the suspects.  Anyone with information may call investigators at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
