CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Vaccination numbers are falling in Will County, and some workers organizations are trying to turn that around.

The Warehouse Workers for Justice group is trying to reach zip codes in Joliet with the highest COVID-19 infection rates to encourage people to get vaccinated.

The group held a press conference and vaccine outreach event with the Chicago Workers Collaborative and the Will County Health Department.

"It's not a conspiracy. It's not a government conspiracy. It is not a prank. It is not a hoax. Okay, you need to get vaccinated you need to protect yourself and your family members," Vinita Voss, who is the county's vaccine equity manager.

According to data from the Illinois Department of Public Health, the number of daily vaccine doses administered in Will County peaked in mid-April with 8,000 to 10,000 daily shots and arms.

Now just over a thousand doses are given on average each day but only half of the population is fully inoculated.
