CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It may be time for back-to-school shopping at Orland Square Mall but kids are not allowed without an adult.

There's been only one theft from a store at Orland Square Mall after 3 p.m. on a Friday or Saturday since mid-March and it was not by a minor. That's according to Mayor Keith Pekau who said the mall's curfew for kids under 18 without an adult at those times has been well received.

"Retailers love it. Simon Properties --  I've spoke to them personally about it -- they are very ecstatic with how it's turned out. I can't tell you exactly how how much their sales are up but their sales are up," Pekau told WBBM Newsradio.

Simon Property Group instituted the policy back in March. It owns malls in Aurora Gurnee, Schaumburg and Springfield as well as dozens of others in other states. Pekau said his office hasn't received any complaints about it.
