OAKLAND — An apparent shootout Thursday night in East Oakland, in which numerous rifle and pistol rounds were fired, left a bystander wounded, authorities said.

Some of the shooters used the play area of a closed pre-school to launch the assault, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 7:03  p.m. Thursday  in the 3500 block of 64th Avenue Place, north of MacArthur Boulevard.

Authorities said several suspects armed with guns entered the play area of a pre-school on 65th Avenue and began firing at some other people who were outside on 64th Avenue Place. The pre-school has been closed since the end of the school year, officials said.

Some of the people being shot at returned fire, authorities said.

A  24-year-old woman who was outside on 64th Avenue Place suffered a graze wound from a stray bullet, authorities said. She declined medical treatment.

Some parked vehicles and at least one home were also hit by the gunfire, but no other injuries were reported.

All of the shooters fled before police got to the scene. The recovered shell casings indicated both rifles and handguns were used, police said.

A motive for the shooting is under investigation.
