BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Blue Jays bid a fond farewell to Sahlen Field Wednesday night, and will return to Toronto for their next home stand.

It’s been a chaotic season for the Blue Jays. They began playing games at their spring training facility in Florida, then moved up to Buffalo last month.

While the players may be heading back to Toronto, their families living on the American side of the border will have to stay here, as restrictions remain in place.

Blue Jays pitcher Ross Stripling described his mixed emotions earlier this week.

“Obviously we want to go to Toronto, we want to play in the Rogers Centre and it feels like we’re going to play really well there,” he said. “But personally, my son just turned five months old and I’m probably not going to see him until he’s seven months old. So, that’s weighing on me really hard, no doubt about it. But once we get to Toronto, get packed up and get these next few days over with, once we’re in Toronto, everything will be better.”

Though the Blue Jays final game at Sahlen Field was a 7-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox, for so many diehard baseball fans in Buffalo, having the team here was a win all the way. To thank the City of Good Neighbors, the Blue Jays made a $25,000 donation to the Buffalo Bisons Charitable Foundation.

The Bisons have been playing in Trenton, New Jersey this year, but with the Jays heading home, the Herd is scheduled to play its first game back at Sahlen Field August 10.
