OAKLAND — A 27-year-old Richmond man was shot early Thursday morning during an attempted robbery in East Oakland, authorities said.

He was in stable condition.

The shooting happened about 12:20 a.m. Thursday in the 7100 block of International Boulevard near a liquor store.

The man told police he purchased some food at a food truck in another part of East Oakland and had driven to the liquor store to get some beverages.

The man said he had just gotten out of his vehicle and was on the sidewalk when he was approached by a man who pointed a gun at him and demanded his money.

The man said he tried to grab the robber’s gun and was shot in the hand in the struggle.  The suspect fled without taking anything and the man was able to get a ride to a hospital for treatment.

The robber is described as Latino,  30 to 40-years-old, about  5 feet 10 and 280 pounds with a dark complexion and a goatee.  He was wearing all dark clothing, including a beanie and a hoodie.
