SAN JOSE – A man died after he was hit by a motorist on Monterey Highway late Tuesday night, according to San Jose police.

The collision was reported at about 11:25 p.m. on Monterey near Curtner Avenue, police said. An initial investigation found that the man was walking in the southbound lanes between crosswalks when the driver of a black Chevrolet pickup truck hit him.

The man died soon after at a local hospital. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified him as 65-year-old transient David Sandoval.

Police said the driver stopped at the scene, and that there was no indication of impaired driving.

The collision marked the city’s 31st traffic death of the year and the 11th involving a pedestrian victim.
