DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Public Schools is working to hire more than 300 employees to fill vacancies at multiple schools, including Jordan High School.

Casey Watson, communications specialist for DPS, said the positions are not just for teachers but for other roles as well. The greatest needs include math, science and exceptional children’s teachers and bus drivers.

Most positions come with a $3,500 sign-on bonus that could increase to as much as $8,000 depending on the school, grade level and field of study. The recruitment bonus would be paid out over the next three years.

Several virtual information sessions will be held so those interested can learn more about the jobs available and the sign-on bonuses being offered. The information sessions will be held:

  • July 20, 4-5:30 p.m.
  • July 27, 4-5:30 p.m.
  • Aug. 3, 4-5:30 p.m.
  • Aug. 10, 4-5:30 p.m.
Potential candidates can register at www.dpsnc.net.

The number of vacancies sounds high, but Watson told WRAL News it is comparable to prior years.
