Next month, Literacy Lubbock is hosting a two-day event aimed at encouraging Hub City residents young and old to pick up a book - especially one penned by a local author.

This free, two-day long Lubbock Book Festival is set for Sept. 25 and 26 and will connect authors and readers through an exciting event to celebrate literacy, creativity, and the written word at the Mahon Public Library at 1306 9th St.

"Our goal: to inspire Lubbock to love reading!" said organizer Elizabeth Laughlin.

The festival will have:

• book sales from local authors

• a used book sale

• author signings

• engaging panels on a wide range of topics

• creative workshops for aspiring writers

• family-fun activities

• and so much more!

Local authors interested in registering to participate in the event are urged to go to the Literacy Lubbock Facebook page or online to their online registration form at https://forms.gle/W79uMUtrpLcJhMiMA. More information is also available through the organization's website, literacylubbock.org.

The $40 registration fee for a booth for both days goes back into supporting Literacy Lubbock's adult education programs like ABE, GED and English as a Second Language. "They get to sell books and we get to teach more Lubbock neighbors how to read - it's a win-win!" Laughlin said.
