OAKLAND — A 13-year-old boy and a woman were wounded by stray bullets fired in a downtown shooting early Sunday, authorities said.
Both were in stable condition at a hospital.
The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of 14th Street near Harrison Street — an area with bars and restaurants.
Authorities said an apparent dispute between different groups of people near a parking lot in the area led to shots being fired.
Authorities said the boy, an Oakland resident, was with relatives and had come to the area to get some food at a spot that turned out to be closed. The boy — who was transported to a hospital — was wounded in the lower body as he and his relatives were walking away, authorities said.
The 30-year-old woman, a San Leandro resident, was standing outside a bar when she was wounded, authorities said. She got her own transportation to a hospital.
Numerous shell casings were found in the area, but no other people were wounded.
Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and identify the suspects who fled before officers arrived on the scene.
There have been other shootings in the same area over the years, including one in March of 2019 that ended with four people wounded.
