A smoke shop for 9th Street at Avenue A

Signage is up now for Villager Smoke Shop at one of the storefronts along 441-445 E. Ninth St. (aka 145 Avenue A).

With this arrival, all six retail spaces here on Ninth Street are occupied... (Anine, which offers eyelash extensions, is the other most recent leaseholder) ... Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices and Ice Cream is in the Avenue A-facing storefront...
The previous newish retail tenants mostly vacated in 2019 in this Icon Realty-owned building.

H/T Steven!

  1. One of the worst landlords in city has conned another batch of small businesses to rent these commercial spaces, I won't spend a dime at any of them.

  2. I gladly spend money at Ralph's. Love the walk-up window and the kids in there are hard working. Boycotting b/c you hate the landlord is foolish.

  3. Not a penny in any of them. The entire neighborhood needs to keep a long memory of Icon and others who have contributed to signficant degradation of our cultural and business insutitutions. The ideal (pie in the sky) outcome would be for Icon to have to include language in all of their contracts and financial statements that there is a potential downside to operating in ICON buildings because of the widely held belief that they are a dispreputable and morally reprehensible bunch.

    1. I'll spend twice at Ralph's this week. This boycott is nonsensical beyond belief.

  4. Icon is owned by Terrance Lowenberg. He is one of the worst of the worst slumlords in our neighborhood. He is right up there with Jared Kushner.

  5. How about buildings owned by Crowman or Ben Shaoul? They came before Icon. Shaoul systematically harrassed out tenants and then after he did the dirty work they were sold to Kushner/Westminster. Will you all boycott those as well? Icon is bad no doubt but the other two were way more aggressive. Crowan went to jail by the way.

  6. Seems like the gluten free bakery is now closed. I have not seen anyone in there for weeks.
