Gearbox Publishing held its own E3 showcase and it mostly featured a behind-the-scenes look at “Borderlands” the movie. That isn’t so bad for fans of the video game. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford showed the curious how the Hollywood magic happens, talking to director Eli Roth and chatting with the likes of Kevin Hart though the actor did leave him hanging.
Despite being heavy on the film, the stream also mentioned a few video game announcements. That was headlined by “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands,” a fantasy spin-off to the “Borderlands” franchise. It seems like it will be full-on campaign that expands on the magic that was “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.”
The game features multiclass heroes, who are on a quest to stop the tyrannical Dragon Lord. It will have a co-op campaign that supports up to four players. If past Tiny Tina adventures are any indication, expect a “Dungeons and Dragons” influence along with the manic narration from the title character and few rules being broken.
What’s notable is that the voice cast is impressive with Andy Samberg playing the headstrong captain Valentine, Wanda Sykes playing the rule-obsessed robot Frette, Will Arnett playing the Dragon Lord and of course Ashly Burch voicing Tiny Tina.
GODFALL FOR EVERYBODYCounterplay made a big announcement for its title “Godfall.” At launch, the game was released on PC and PlayStation 5. Nnow, the looter-slasher is now coming to the PlayStation 4, which will expand its user-base. Along with that, “Godfall” is getting a free Lightbringer update, cross-gen co-op and more quality-of-life improvements.
The project also has a “Fire & Darkness” expansion available. Fans who were curious about it can finally check it out Aug. 10. The move can only help Counterplay because the limited availability of PlayStation 5 has meant a smaller customer base. With the PlayStation 4 version coming, more players could check it out.
OTHER TITLES TO KEEP AN EYE ON“Tribes of Midgard” received some play. The action role-playing game has been on the radar for a few months now, but as the game nears its July 27 release date, the team at Norsefell is trying to generate excitement for its project.
It looks intriguing with a 10-player co-operative campaign, where players try to defend against giants and other creatures threatening the Seed of Yggdrasil. Players have to build structures to defend their base and work together to fend off threats.
The most intriguing things about “Tribes of Midgard” is the survival gameplay, progression and the large-party aspects of the game. Ten players is a lot to handle and trying to survive with that many people could be unadulterated chaos or an epic adventure.
Lastly, Gearbox did show bits and pieces of “Homeworld 3.” It almost seemed like a gag at first, but it’s a real game and it’s a 3D real-time strategy game. Not much was shown, but it looked intriguing.
