You may have seen news stories nation wide about animal shelters filling up as the pandemic appears to be winding down in the United States. Many animals were adopted or rescued during the pandemic because people were bored and wanted a companion. Unfortunately, now that people are going back to work or just because they don't want the responsibility anymore, many are dropping off dogs and cats at shelters across the nation.

According to a Facebook post made on Friday, The Haven in Lubbock is experiencing a boom in the number of dogs dropped off recently and they are in need of donations in the form of money or even Purina dry dog food for adults and puppies.

As much as we hate to ask, here we are asking for donations. We have taken in a large number of dogs recently and are in serious need of dry dog food for both adults and puppies. We primarily purchase Purina, however, our dogs are happy with any brand and we appreciate any brand that you donate. We are open Saturdays 10-5. We also have someone at the Haven 10-4 on other days, however, they are usually working in kennels and may be hard to locate. Thank you for any donations!

The Haven Animal Care Shelter was founded in 1977 as a no-kill shelter as it remains today. The shelter was establish by Dr. Brenda and Joe Wilbanks. While also working to provide sanctuary to homeless and abandoned pets, The Haven also has many pets available for adoption.

The Haven is open Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 4501 N. FM 1729 in Lubbock.
