Chris Cain has been a mainstay on the Bay Area blues scene for more than 40 years, but the San Jose native believes he’s reached a new point in his career with the release of “Raisin’ Cain.”

“I’m playing and writing better than ever before. I can say more with less,” Cain says of the new album, which marks his debut on the legendary Chicago label Alligator Records. “And I’m as excited to be making music today as I was when I was a teenager.”

Cain sounds strong on the new album, which was recorded by Kid Andersen at his Greaseland Studio in San Jose and features bassist Steve Evans, keyboardist/organist Greg Rahn and drummers Sky Garcia and D’Mar Martin.

The award-winning vocalist-guitarist will support “Raisin’ Cain” with four Bay Area shows.

He performs June 25 at the San Mateo Elks Lodge in San Mateo (6:30 p.m., $20-$25, eventbrite.com); June 26 at the Empress Theatre in Vallejo (8 p.m., $20-$30, empresstheatre.org); July 3 at Poor House Bistro in San Jose (7 p.m., $20-$120, email manager@poorhousebistro.com for reservations, poorhousebistro.com); and July 8 at the Summer Sounds Concert Series at Lesher Center for the Arts — Rudney Plaza in Walnut Creek (5:30 p.m., free but tickets are required, reservations accepted beginning June 16, lesherartscenter.org).
