2 Teens Shot In Chicago Recently Have Died

CHICAGO — Two teenagers who were shot in the city of Chicago over the past week-and-a-half have died. Savanah Quintero, 14, and Robert Barr, 15, have been identified as fatal victims in shootings that occurred on Wednesday and May 26, respectively, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Quintero was shot on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of West 48th Street, in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, at 6:09 p.m. Wednesday, Chicago police said. Three people walked up to her and one shot her in the head, according to a police narrative. She was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition before she died, according to police.

Both teens who died in the Chicago shootings were identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office over the weekend, the Tribune reported.

Barr was shot in the head a little after 1 a.m. on May 26 in the 7200 bock of South Princeton Avenue near the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, according to police. A 16-year-old boy and 22-year-old man were also shot at the time, according to the Tribune.

Raymond Lopez, alderman of Chicago's 15th Ward, told the Tribune he does not believe Quintero, nor her boyfriend who was with her at the time of the shooting, were part of a gang.

The three people who came up to her before the shooting asked if they were affiliated with a gang. Lopez told the newspaper the girl responded they were not, but a relative of hers was.

The boyfriend told the girl to run, Lopez said, but she was still struck by one of the shots.

Police haven't made an arrest in either case, although Lopez told the Tribune “it shouldn’t be too hard to narrow these individuals down."
