BASEBALL/SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Windthorst's Belcher, Iowa Park's Dowell pitch no-hitters

BOWIE – Windthorst pitcher Cy Belcher allowed no hits over five innings Friday, needing 77 pitches to push Trojans to a win in Game 1 of a Region II-2A bi-district series with Chico. The Trojans wrapped up the series with an 8-1 victory in Game 2.

Belcher allowed three walks and struck out seven batters. He also drove in a pair of runs.

Kyle Wolf was Game 1’s top hit, going 2 for 3 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs. Tryston Harding was a 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Wolf was the Game 2 winning pitcher, allowing a single earned run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts He also had two hits. Zane Hackley scored twice for the Trojans and hit a double.

Windthorst advances to the area round and will play either Cooper or Era.

Iowa Park softball 14, Krum 0

IOWA PARK – Abby Dowell tossed five no-hit innings Thursday, giving Iowa Park a 1-0 lead in its Region I-4A area-round series with Krum.

Dowell struck out seven batters and allowed one walk.

Five different Lady Hawks registered two hits, including Bella Dickens, Dowell, Rylee Goins, Gracie Justus and Alayna York. York and Paige Gallegos had a team-best two RBIs. Dickens, Dowell and Madi Fulfer each had a double.
