DURHAM, N.C. — The woman charged with murdering the son of a former Durham deputy police chief has no violent crimes on her record.
Nitisha Page had her first appearance, virtually, in court on Wednesday morning. She was arrested Tuesday in Morrisville by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.

Page, 39, is charged with murder and with misdemeanor hit and run in the death of Anthony Marsh, Jr. Marsh was a specialist in the Army Reserve, as well as the former deputy police chief's son.

An arrest warrant says she was driving a vehicle that hit Marsh's truck – and after hitting the truck, she left the scene.

It's unclear what prompted the shooting from there, and police haven't released a motive.

WRAL searched through public records and made dozens of phone calls to learn more about the suspect.

From what documents in the courthouse, WRAL found this is her first charge that has anything to do with a violent crime.

"We grew up together. This is not her. So, whatever is going on, whoever did this ... this is not her. She didn't do that. Anybody else that you talk to is going to say the same thing that I'm saying, right now. This is not Nitisha Page," said Page's cousin Star Hart.

Her only previous charges are traffic-related, to include speeding and driving with a revoked license.

"She's never been in trouble. She doesn't even cuss. She's a businesswoman," said Hart.

She owns a tax company in Durham, called Jewel Tax Solutions, on Broad Street, near downtown.

"She loves her daughter. She's a good person ... she's active in the community. This isn't my cousin," said Hart. "My cousin couldn't kill anyone."

On Tuesday, Durham Police announced the FBI had arrested Page, in Morrisville. When asked why the FBI had been involved in the arrest, officials clarified the arrest was done by Durham police officers who are members of an FBI task force.

WRAL News requested an interview with Page from the Durham County jail – but she declined.

Page is due back in court on May 26.
