May 1st and 2nd marks the City of Meridian’s third annual Trash or Treasure event. Residents can place items they no longer want, such as desks and chairs on the curb, then people can find their treasures.
“Trash or Treasure has been a great opportunity for Meridian residents to repurpose items they no longer need as they do some spring cleaning,” Meridian Mayor, Robert Simison said. “Our residents are also given the opportunity to be treasure hunters as they search for hidden gems throughout the City on this weekend. Last year was a massive success, we hope that we can top that this year.”
People who plan on setting items out can visit the Trash or Treasure website to mark their trash spot on the map. This makes it easier for people taking part to find their soon-to-be treasures.

According to the news release hazardous waste and electronic waste is not permitted.
Brett Baranco of the Meridian Police Department first proposed this idea to honor his late brother-in-law Matt Clause, who worked on a similar project in Canada.
“This program is truly special to me and my family. It is an honor knowing that my brother-in-law’s memory is attached to this wonderful program,” Baranco said. “It makes me so happy to see my city grab an idea such as Trash or Treasure which enhances the already established program of Spring Cleanup in giving an opportunity for someone’s trash to become another person’s treasure.”
The news release says that remaining items can either be donated; or starting May 3 set out for pickup during Republic Services’ Spring Clean-Up week. For more information on donations click here.
