Mesa police say a man, child and two dogs were found dead Wednesday night inside a home near Brown and Ellsworth roads.

Officers just before 8 p.m. responded to the home after a woman called 911 saying she was injured and needed help, according to police department spokesperson Irene Mahoney.

She had a serious eye injury and was taken to a hospital, Mahoney said. It's unclear what the woman's condition was as of Thursday afternoon.

Inside the home, police found the bodies of a man, child and two dogs, Mahoney said.

No further details about the incident, including the victims' names or ages, were provided by police on Thursday.

Mahoney said police had no reason to believe any suspects were outstanding. She said it appears to be a murder-suicide but the investigation was still in the early stages.
