23-Year-Old Land O' Lakes Man Youngest To Win Powerball Jackpot

The money will come in handy. Despite being a multi-millionaire, Thomas Yi said he still plans to go to college.

LAND O' LAKES, FL — Thomas Yi is on Cloud 9, or rather Cloud 235.4 million.

That's the amount of money the 23-year-old Land O' Lakes man won in the Powerball drawing March 27.

Yi, Florida's 15th Powerball jackpot winner and the youngest player to win a Florida Lottery Powerball jackpot, chose to receive his winnings in a one-time lump sum payment of $160,038,447.27.

"Even after matching all six numbers, I was in disbelief and took my ticket to a retailer to have it checked," Yi said. "The clerk at the counter instantly became excited and kept repeating that I had won the $235 million Powerball jackpot. I knew then that this would be life changing."

The money will come in handy, he said. Despite being a multi-millionaire, Yi said he plans to go to college to major in either business or medicine.

Yi purchased his jackpot-winning ticket from Publix at 16560 N. Nebraska Avenue in Lutz. Publix will receive a $95,000 bonus commission for selling the jackpot-winning Powerball ticket.

The next Powerball drawing will be held Saturday, April 17 at 10:59 p.m. with an estimated $79 million jackpot. National Powerball drawings are broadcast live from the Florida Lottery's studio in Tallahassee.
