The Columbus Division of Police has identified two officers involved in a fatal shooting Monday at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital.

CPD said the officers involved are Officer Andrew Howe and Officer Ryan Krichbaum.

Both officers are 15-year veterans with CPD and and are assigned to Zone 1 Patrol.

Miles Jackson, 27, was killed Monday by officers in the St. Ann's Hospital Emergency Room.

Westerville Police Chief Charles Chandler said Jackson was found passed out in a vehicle, and after running his identity, police discovered he had open warrants with Columbus Police for domestic violence and a previous gun charge.

The law enforcement agencies said "an altercation ensued" in the ER area during the transfer of custody leading to a shooting between Howe, Krichbaum, four hospital security officers, and Jackson.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said BCI investigators determined Jackson had a gun and fired shots before he was shot.

"BCI’s investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday afternoon at St. Ann’s Hospital remains ongoing. We can confirm through preliminary ballistic testing that the decedent had a gun and shots were fired," Yost said. "BCI continues to interview witnesses and complete further forensic analysis to determine all of the facts. Partial facts only provide partial truth."

Tuesday night, following the shooting, protesters clashed with officers outside CPD headquarters. So far, one man has been placed under arrest for allegedly attacking an officer with a wooden club.

The shooting is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
