Courtney Williams sentenced to 20 years

A Yazoo County woman has been sentenced to 20 years for the 2019 stabbing death of her father. Courtney Williams was found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the Sept. 1, 2019, death of James Williams, of Bentonia. James Williams was stabbed twice in the back inside the family's home, according to a news release from District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver."Courtney (Williams) was initially charged with murder, but after a two-day trial in which the defendant gave several conflicting statements as to the reason why she stabbed her father, the Yazoo County jury convicted her of manslaughter," the release said.Several family members testified during the sentencing hearing, including James Williams' sister, Catherine Smith, who asked the court for the maximum sentence for her niece. Courtney Williams was sentenced to 20 years, with 15 to serve, five years suspended and five years of supervised probation.
