REXBURG — A Rexburg man is accused of sexually abusing a girl while watching a movie.

Prosecutors have charged 35-year-old Tyson Daniel Rollins with felony lewd conduct with a child under 16. According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained by EastIdahoNews.com, Madison County Sheriff’s detectives became aware of the allegations when the now teenage victim disclosed the alleged abuse to her mother in January.

Rollins and the victim are known to each other.

The victim described to investigators in graphic detail how Rollins allegedly sexually assaulted her underneath her clothes while both of them were watching a movie inside a home. The victim said the alleged abuse happened when she was either 12 or 13 years old, placing the alleged incident sometime between 2018 and 2020.

Court documents indicate Rollins retained a private attorney who advised him not to speak with investigators.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested Rollins on Friday. He made an initial court appearance on Monday. Magistrate Judge David Hunt set Rollins bail at $25,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 21.

Although Rollins is charged with a crime, it does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

If convicted of felony lewd conduct, Rollins could be ordered to spend up to life in prison.
