City renews free summer concert in Omaha's Memorial Park

The annual concert in Omaha's Memorial Park will return in 2021, but it will not take place near Independence Day.Instead, organizers announced Thursday the concert is set for Saturday, August 28th, and said the fireworks show following the concert will be among the largest shows in the region."The later date for the City of Omaha Celebrates America event will help to ensure that the outdoor event can be held as safely as possible," said organizers in a news release.COVID-19 restrictions forced the cancellation of the free concert on 2020.Organizers have not yet named performers for the event. “We are so excited to get our celebration of America back on the calendar for 2021,” said Mayor Jean Stothert in the news release.The Mayor said the concert will be a celebration of Omaha's perseverance, and the everyday heroes who worked to keep families safe throughout the pandemic.The plan is to return the concert to Independence Day weekend in 2022, with a concert date set for Friday, July 1. The Omaha Parks Foundation sponsors the concert and it is managed by Vic Gutman & Associates.
