Police find and arrest suspect in Burleson police officer shooting

Burleson police have found the suspect involved in the shooting of a police officer during a traffic stop this morning.

After issuing a state-wide 'Blue Alert,' 39-year-old Jerry Don Elders was arrested in Gainesville and is now in custory.

Officials say the officer pulled Elders around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday and before he made contact with Elders on the passenger side the officer was shot several times.

Cordell says the officer is in stable condition and is alert at JPS Hospital in Fort Worth.

Elders was driving a stolen silver Toyota Tacoma with TX plates DKB 6819.

Two other people were in the vehicle as well according to reports. There is no word yet on their identities.

The Texas Rangers continue to assist in the investigation.

The Burleson police department wanted to express their appreciation for officer Joshua Lott through the Facebook Post below and allow the community to assist him and his family at this time.

"We understand our community will want to know what to do to help Officer Lott and his family. You can reach out lcauthern@burlesontx.com and she will assist in coordination," reads the Facebook post.
