Faustin Guetigo, 27, was fatally shot by Winnebago County sheriff's deputies on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

ROCKFORD — A GoFundMe account has been established for the family of the Rockford man who was shot and killed by a Winnebago County sheriff's deputy Saturday night.

The man, Faustin Guetigo, was an immigrant from Central African Republic. He had been living on Bellwort Drive just outside of the city's limits in southeast Winnebago County since March.

Winnebago County sheriff's deputies responded to the home Saturday after Guetigo's wife, Rose Ndoroum, called for help. The couple was having a domestic dispute.

Law enforcement officials told members of the media Monday that Guetigo was outside the home but fled inside when a deputy arrived. After more deputies arrived and entered the house, officials said Guetigo charged the deputies with a metal pipe and struck one of the deputies on the head.

Then, officials said, Guetigo, 27, was fatally shot.

The shooting is under investigation by the Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force, which investigates police use of force and in-custody deaths.

At the time of the shooting, Ndoroum said she was outside of the home that she shared with Guetigo, the couple's 2-year-old child and Ndoroum's 6-year-old.

"We are a group of concerned community members of Rockford, Illinois, and surrounding areas who would like to raise enough money to help with funeral costs as well as day-to-day living for Rose and the children," the GoFundMe states. "They have witnessed and experienced a traumatic incident and shouldn't have to worry about finances during this difficult time. ... As a community, when one of us is in pain, we all are in pain."

The fundraising goal is $3,000.

As of Tuesday night, the community had raised more than $1,000.
