How did Iowa fare when Americans were asked to rank the states? Well, it's not great.

Someone in a London-based data group, probably to get back at the U.S. for 1776, asked a little more than 1,200 Americans to rank the states.

The international data company, YouGov, asked participants in a series of head-to-head matchups to pick the state they thought was “better.”

Iowa did not rank well. In fact, every state Iowa touches outranked it.

The Hawkeye State was ranked 46 whereas South Dakota came in at 44, Minnesota came in at 24, Nebraska was ranked 34, Missouri came in at 43, Wisconsin came in at 38 and Illinois came in at 39.

YouGov reported that each respondent saw seven match-ups, and no respondent saw a state twice. The company said that data was weighted to be nationally representative of all U.S. adults 18 and older. The survey was conducted between March 12 - 15, 2021.

Hmmm, not sure if this is up to Iowa Poll standards

According to the news release, Hawaii is in first place, which makes sense. Hard to compete with paradise.

Alabama is the state that placed last, but the survey included the District of Columbia, which is not a state, but placed last in the list — below Alabama.
