DOH reports 5,730 new coronavirus cases in PA, 50 more deaths

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 5,730 new coronavirus cases in the state Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 1,087,792 throughout all 67 counties since the beginning of the pandemic.

Health officials say 89 percent of the state's total cases are considered to be recovered and 2,448,948 Pennsylvanians have been fully vaccinated, as of Wednesday.

All adults are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, the Pennsylvania Department of Health announced.

State health officials reported 50 more coronavirus-related deaths Wednesday, bringing Pennsylvania's death toll to 25,522.

According to the Department of Health's hospital dashboard, 2,580 people are hospitalized with the virus across Pennsylvania and and 542 are in the Intensive Care Unit.

Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

There have been 69,892 confirmed cases in our 10-county viewing area since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health, and 1,658 deaths.

There were 274 new COVID-19 cases reported in our viewing area Wednesday along with one more death.

Cambria reported an increase of 61 cases, Centre and Blair each reported an increase of 50, Somerset reported 35, Clearfield reported 28, Huntingdon reported 16, Jefferson reported 15, Bedford reported 13 and Elk reported six.

As for deaths, Clearfield reported the only one.

According to the Department of Health, 4,251,130 patients have tested negative for the virus.

As far as our neighboring counties go: Indiana County is reporting 5,639 cases along with 165 total deaths, and Westmoreland County is reporting 31,001 cases and 718 total deaths.

Gov. Wolf has revised mitigation orders on gathering limits and has lifted out-of-state travel restrictions as more peopled receive the COVID-19 vaccine across the commonwealth.

The Department of Health has updated Pennsylvania's mask-wearing guidance for those who are fully vaccinated.

Health officials are encouraging Pennsylvanians to download the state's COVID Alert app.
