Wauwatosa West Student Dies Unexpectedly

WAUWATOSA, WIβ€” The Wauwatosa School District is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old student at Wauwatosa West High School.

"Lizzy" Elizabeth Thompson, a junior, died unexpectedly on Saturday morning, according to a Go FundMe account created.

The District announced the news to parents in a letter.

"We are saddened to inform you of the unexpected passing of Wauwatosa West junior, Elizabeth Thompson. At this time, we ask that you please respect the privacy of the Thompson family as they process this difficult situation. The death of a student is incredibly difficult for any school, and we will make grief counselors available for both students and staff in the coming days. Students are encouraged to reach out to their school counselor, psychologist or social worker if they are in need of support. Please take care of yourselves as we deal with this devastating loss as a school community."

A cause of death isn't known at this time.

The GoFundMe, which has raised over $$4,830 as of Wednesday afternoon, was created by Wauwatosa West High School teacher Kathy Schulz. Patch messaged Schulz on Tuesday but haven't heard back as of Wednesday morning.

"Lizzy" Elizabeth Thompson was a junior at Wauwatosa West High School, where I am a teacher. Lizzy's mom, Teri Vine Thompson and I teach together and are very close friends. Lizzy passed away suddenly & unexpectedly on Saturday morning, 4/10/21. Please consider donating to help offset the medical and funeral expenses. Love and miss you "Lizzy Looooo!"
