BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Almost one week ago, Layne Gravois died while trying to save a child.

Gravois was a student at LSU.

Interim LSU President Tom Galligan sent condolences to the family of Layne Gravois during the LSU Board of Supervisors meeting over the weekend.

What Interim LSU President Tom Galligan said can be found below:

“I have another sad story to report but it’s a heroic story. Layne Gravois was a junior engineering student who had just received a scholarship. He was in Destin on vacation with friends and two young children were drowning and so he was part of an attempted rescue crew. Sadly he lost his life in the process. Our thoughts are with his family as well.”
