DALLAS - Former Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst has been arrested and charged with domestic violence.

He was arrested in the 3300 block of W. Mockingbird Lane on April 13, just after 5 p.m. Dallas Police say when officers arrived they met with an adult female victim who says she was physically assaulted by a male acquaintance. The actual charge is a class A Misdemeanor Assault Family Violence.

Dewhurst was released after posting bond just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Dewhurst served Texas as the 41st Lt. Governor from 2003-2015.
