Colorado may not be as environmentally friendly as many think. Personal finance website WalletHub released a study Wednesday detailing 2021’s Greenest States, the Centennial State placed 17th.

With Earth Day approaching, the study compared the 50 states by way of 25 key metrics that speak to the environment’s current health and residents’ environmental-friendliness. Some of the data used were green buildings per capita and the share of energy consumption from renewable resources.

The study determined that blue states were greener with an average rank of 14.76, compared with red states, which have an average rank of 36.24. It also found that Oregon is getting nearly half of its energy from renewable sources and that almost half of New Yorkers do not drive to work.
