DHHR: Nine new COVID deaths in West Virginia, 413 new cases

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported nine new COVID-19 deaths and 413 new cases in the state Wednesday.

The state has 7,309 current active cases, which is 38 fewer that the previous day. There have been 2,756 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The most recent deaths were a 68-year-old man from Putnam County, a 56-year-old woman from Cabell County, a 90-year-old man from Wayne County, a 73-year-old woman from Harrison County, a 53-year-old man from Marshall County, an 89-year-old man from Marshall County, a 94-year-old woman from Berkeley County, a 65-year-old man from Wood County and a 59-year-old woman from Raleigh County.

The overall positive test rate remained at 5.22% Wednesday while the daily test rate decreased from 4.16% to 3.57%.

As of Tuesday, there were 239 people hospitalized in the state with the virus, including 57 in intensive care and 22 people on ventilators.

On the county alert map, two counties – Boone and Berkeley - remained in the red. Green continued to be the dominant color with 26 counties in that color. Six counties, including Kanawha, were in orange, seven were in gold and 14 were in yellow. The DHHR posted the map Wednesday based on Tuesday’s data.

There are 471,901 West Virginians who are fully vaccinated. There have been 137,138 COVID-19 recoveries in the state.
